About Dhamma Foundation Course Module 2

DHAMMA FOUNDATION COURSE MODULE 2

Buddhist Fellowship, in collaboration with Jetavana Dhamma Institute will be conducting the second of the two-part foundational series on Buddha's Dhamma from 4 August to 17 November 2018. It is for anyone interested in knowing what the Buddha had really taught, which is quite distinct from conventionally understood Buddhism today. By going back to Buddha's ancient teaching, we hope our participants will come to appreciate the beautiful and practical Dhamma.

The unique feature of this 16-week course is that it not only imparts conceptual doctrinal knowledge but also explains how to correctly apply Buddha’s methodology of taming the mind. Lectures will cover Buddhist history, Dhamma concepts, method of spiritual practice including meditation and application of Dhamma in daily life. Our main sources are discourses by Buddha and leading arahants captured in the ancient Pāli canon.

There will also be five tutorials, led by a group of Dhamma scholars who are also serious practitioners. These tutorials will build on the lectures to consolidate the understanding of the participants through small-group discussions. Included in this module is a 4-week meditation course by Dr Ng Yuen Yen and a concluding one weekend non-residential Dhamma retreat led by Sister Sylvia Bay.

Objectives
