About Manali - Leh Khardung La Mountain Biking Expedition' 2018

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Manali | 2050 Meters | 6725 Feet
Welcome to Manali. Rest and acclimatization day. Orientation in evening, dinner and overnight stay in Manali Meal: Dinner

Day 2: Manali | 25 Kms | 2050 Meters | 6725 Feet
Trial riding, post breakfast your cycle will be provided to you so you can inspect and ride your cycles. You will be assisted and guided by our expedition leader. We will then head out for a ride through the pine forests and along the Beas river. Post a short ride of 20 kms we will head back to our hotel and rest up for the expedition beginning the next day. Reshuffle the luggage and get prepared for the actual ride starting tomorrow. Dinner and overnight stay in Manali.

Day 3: Marhi | 35 KMS | 3320 Meters | 11023 Feet
A total of 35 kms of biking; mostly ascent. The road will weave through sparse alpine vegetation. As you gradually ascend along the road, you can look back at great views of the Manali valley below. Marhi (3,000m above) is a small settlement located enroute to Rohtang La. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 4: Sissu | 43 KMS | 3120 Meters | 12036 Feet
A total of 43 kms of biking; about 14 kms ascent and the rest rolling terrain. Experience the bliss of riding through walls of snow as you cross the awe inspiring scenery of the Rohtang pass. Rohtang Pass is at an altitude of 3,978 m and has a reputation of unpredictable snowstorms and blizzards. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 5: Jispa | 52 KMS | 3200 Meters | 10498 Feet
A total of 52 kms along rolling terrain. This will be your last day with mobile network as we pass through the town of Keylong, past which you begin to get cut-off from the civilization in the most traditional sense. Jispa (elevation 3,200 m is a small village with few hundred households only. It is a favorite camping place for mountaineers and adventure tourists along this route.Dinner and over night stay in camp.

Day 6: Zing Zing Bar | 40 KMS | 4270 Meters | 14009 Feet
A total of 40 kms; short gradient tough ascents . This is a challenging terrain for cycling; one that will test your endurance and will power.
We will have lunch by a small lake to celebrate the field day. At this point, youll notice the vegetation beginning to disappear. Zingzingbar is predominantly a basic road works camp area and we will be camping at an altitude of over 4,000 mtrs. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 7: Sarchu | 54 KMS | 4290 Meters | 14070 Feet
A total of 62 kms; 18kms of climb and then rolling terrain. Youll be crossing over from Himachal Pradesh into Jammu & Kashmir. Look out for Marmots along the road. Bara-lacha la (4870 m ) is yet another popular high altitude pass along the Manali to Leh highway. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 8:Pang | 70 KMS| 4700 Meters | 15419 Feet
A total of 70 kms through two high altitude passes. Challenging terrain for cycling as you start ascending from the Sarchu plains through the double pass of Nakee-la (4950m) and the Lachalung-la (5060m). One of the most demanding days on this expedition, the Gata Loops are a series of twenty-one hairpin bends leading upto Nakeela. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 9: Debring | 45 KMS | 4765 Meters | 15634 Feet
A total of 45 kms riding through flat plains. This is a day of relaxation; rejuvenate while you pedal along more flat roads but under the hot sun. Enjoy the vast plains and the feeling of nothingness. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 10: Rumtse | 50 KMS | 4152 Meters | 13622 Feet
A total of 50kms; 15 kms of continuous climb on an almost non existent road and the rest rolling terrain. Taglang-la (5,359m) is also the second highest motorable mountain pass in India. The climb upto this pass is demanding and can take a toll on you. Stay committed and you will make it to the top. Descend with high caution along this 25 km decent into Lato town. Riders are required to decend together and under the vigil of the lead guide and backed by the support vehicles. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 11: Leh | 80 KMS |3500 Meters | 11483 Feet
A total of 80 kms; rolling terrain all along. Begin to experience the Buddhist influenced ladaki way of life as you roll through several small towns with great views all around. We will ride past several monasteries and Buddhist installations. Karu is an army settlement enroute to Leh, one of the biggest you will come across. A very well organized township, for the armed forces. And finally the ride up to Leh town will require that one last climb of about 12 Km to get into the town and your stay that sits by the base of the mountains.

Day 12: Leh-Khardung La-Leh
45 + 45KMS |5602 Meters | 18380 Feet
A total of 90 kms; 45 kms one way. This is the mother of all climbs claimed to be the highest motorable pass in the whole wide world. Located at an altitude of 5602m, this pass was opened to motor vehicles in 1988.
