About Dissident Arts Festival 2018

Founded in 2006, the Dissident Arts Festival is a unique event that features various forms of protest art including spoken word, music, performance art and poetry. The festival hopes to shed light on political, social and economic issues that are currently affecting the lives of people around the world. Past performers have included the likes of Pete Seeger, Karl Berger, Ras Moshe and Roy Campbell.

This year, the Dissident Arts Festival will serve as a very special fundraiser for the Rosenberg Fund for Children and its aid to and solidarity with the families of political prisoners. The event is dubbed “Cabaret of Dissent”, a rad review of music, word and song drawing on the underground radicalism of 1920s Berlin, 1930s New York, the postwar-era Beats and the punk poets of 1970s-80s downtown. Performers TBA but the Red Microphone will serve as the event’s house band!
