About Evening at the Cape in Cape Lookout National Seashore

Bring your own flashlight and experience the lighthouse, an island as the keepers did, in the dark of night.Hear stories of the light keepers and watch the sunset and moon and stars come out on the sunlit beaches of Cape Lookout National Seashore.  Discover a different side of your favorite beach!

Reservations are required.  For each Evening at the Cape, reservations will be accepted one week prior to the actual program date. The cost of the program is $28 per person (non-refundable) and includes the cost of the ferry ride.

There will be one evening ferry trip on each date for the program that night; the ferry departure times from the Harkers Island ferry gateway will vary as it is adjusted for the sunset throughout the season.   Returns to Harkers Island will be after dark.

Safety Guidelines

Children must be at least 44 inches tall to climb the lighthouse due to the often strong winds at the top that can knock children off their feet.

Climbers who are 12 years old or younger must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or older.

To keep hands free for handrails, no person may be lifted or carried. Food, drinks, and bulky personal items (e.g. backpacks, tripods) should be left outside the lighthouse.

Shoes are required. Heels should be less than 1½ inches. Flip-flops are not recommended.
